    I have not had a chance to test it yet, but I have the supplies to do it. I did see Russell's blog, but I just ended up going with bigclivedotcom's resistor method from youtube since it was easier for me to use DC, and a capacitor would act as an open circuit in DC.

    Hi, this is a problem... But I will try my best to help you through it, as I know this sort of thing can be very frustrating. I would first suggest that you double and triple check your wiring one more time, even though it can be tedious. Doing this will eliminate that variable and we can find the solution faster. I have a couple of questions that might make it easier for me or others to help you:1) Did you change the passcode to something other than the default passcode (3399)?2) Can you explain exactly how the passcode screen is looping? What are you able to do before it loops? Where does the loop restart from? How many times does it loop before it stops (if it does stop)? What sounds are coming from the piezo buzzer during the loop process?3) Are you wiring this on a breadboard?4) Can …

    I used 5W 150 ohm wire-wound resistors made by a company called NTE. I will update the instructable to be more specific. They are about 10x10x20mm in dimensions and are coated in a white ceramic-like material. Again, look for wire-wound resistors.

    Ok I saw the videos. This problem can only be caused by one variable. In the code, the only way for the program to loop like that is if it gets a value of 0V coming from the SW pin on the encoder. It looks like the microcontroller is receiving a constant 0V from the SW rather than 5V like it should. Can you try adding a line of code to read the value of SW in the serial monitor? You can also use a multimeter to check what voltage the SW pin is at. The SW pin should be at 0V when it is pressed, and at 5V when it is unpressed. Check if these conditions are true and we will go from there. Unfortunately, I do not have an extra OLED to do my own testing on this right now, but I will order one tonight.

    I am always looking for a way to make my design better, and less hot. I will test this again later tonight, but when I was originally designing the circuit, the bulb would not light until about 17V were across it. Anything lower than 17V, and the filament inside the bulb would just glow orange and the bulb would not ignite. Like I said I will test this again to be sure though. Thanks for the feedback!

    Ah yes, I did not read the comment correctly, thank you!

    The type of light that I am using is UVC, which is naturally produced by the sun. However, UVC does not penetrate the Earth's atmosphere so I do not think it is the same type of light.

    Since you have to enter a passcode to arm the device, I did not see something like this to be necessary, as only authorized users who know the safety risks can enable the device. Thanks for the feedback!
