I mixed a very small amount of opaque clay into a piece of translucent clay to create a translucent color. Repeat for other colors. Then I created a variety of “canes” that alternated the translucent clay with opaque clay. I cut thin slices of the resulting canes and placed those on a thin sheet of all translucent clay. Roll the resulting bumpy sheet of clay smooth and cut into circles and cure on a domed surface as described above. This tutorial online was my inspiration: https://kopilka.rv.ua/?p=4822. Hope this helps.
I LOVE that idea! Button covers?? Here are a few pics of a pendant version where the lights and battery holder are in one bead. Here I used the LilyPad LEDs but any through-hole type would work. From this version, one could adapt to a pin or button, I think. I plan to experiment with this...

These ornaments were so much fun to make! I used Derwent Inktense pencils to color the designs in red and green and went back over with a watercolor brush to blend the ink. I colored the edges of the circles with a black permanent marker. On the "Zentangled" ornament, I just used a regular black gel pen and shaded the designs with a graphite pencil. Thanks for creating such a fun project!
