I really wish I did it that way, I actually mention that in a follow up article on my site if you are interested: http://www.thewoodfather.com/thewoodfather/workbench-writeup/ That would be the smarter way for sure.
On long lengths? I can think of a couple ways with a router but none of them seem easy to be honest, have a link to something so I can see what you mean?
Awesome, thanks mate. Next tool to come to the shop should be a woodgears.ca designed bandsaw, can't wait to start work on that, think it will make a huge difference in what I can do.

living in Australia, Halloween really isn't that big a deal, but wow, if it was, this would be my goto costume. great work on the headdress and on the instructions!
